Celebrating 105th birthday with the Governor-General

Beryl Hunter (pictured above left), a resident of Campbell Residential Care, celebrated her upcoming 105th birthday in style at the highest office in the land, Government House.

Governor-General David Hurley and his wife Linda treated Beryl to a delightful afternoon tea in the lavish surrounds marking the upcoming milestone in January.

The afternoon concluded with some music performed by Linda on the piano and a singalong, including two timeless classics “You Are My Sunshine” and “The Red Robbin Comes Bobbing Along”.

Beryl beamed as she spoke about many things including navigating a century of significant events and challenges as well as the secret to living such a long life.

"I believed life would be quite boring at this age, but since moving into Campbell Residential Care, it has been an exciting time with many activities filling my day,” she said.

"I think the secret to a long and happy life is everything in moderation, and not to overindulge.”

Lifestyle and Leisure Coordinator, Richard Cummins, who also attended the afternoon tea said a great time was had by all.

"The afternoon tea was wonderful, with everyone enjoying good conversation and a laugh,” he said.

Government House currently hosts over 100 events annually. It serves as the venue for swearing-in ceremonies for Prime Ministers and Ministers, welcomes international leaders, and officially acknowledges the achievements of Australia's most outstanding citizens.
