Sweet treats and sweeter memories

Love was in the air at our North Turramurra Residential Aged Care home recently as it hosted a heartwarming Valentine’s Day High Tea filled with sweet treats, savoury surprises and an abundance of joy!

Joined by residents from Marsfield Residential Aged Care, the event was an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the spirit of love and share moments of happiness together.

Held in the beautifully decorated Huon House, guests were surrounded by breathtaking floral arrangements, an array of delicious treats and the sweet aroma of freshly brewed tea and coffee.

From colourful macarons to rich scones topped with jam and cream, the spread of tasty delights was a feast for the senses. Savory specialties including delicate finger sandwiches added an extra layer of indulgence, ensuring there was something for every palate.

But while the food was undoubtedly a highlight, it was the atmosphere of connection and celebration that truly stole the show.

As the tea flowed, so did the stories - laughter echoed through the rooms as residents not only reminisced about their pasts with fellow residents, but shared stories with new ones.

It was not just about indulging in delicious food but about creating memories, celebrating relationships, and feeling deeply connected to the people around them.

A very special birthday was also marked on the day. Turramurra resident John Hood celebrated his 94th year and was presented with a copy of the Sydney Morning Hearld printed on the day he was born.

The retired anaesthetist was thrilled at receiving a copy of the newspaper printed during the depression in 1931, and smiled as residents, staff and family alike sung Happy Birthday.

“It’s always special to see the residents come together like this,” a staff member said.

“The joy in the room really was contagious.

“The residents were all so very touched that we had gone to so much effort for them.

“We may have brought the treats, but it’s the engagement, the stories, and the shared moments of warmth that they always bring that makes events like this so meaningful.

“It reminded us all that little gestures like sharing a smile, listening with kindness, or simply enjoying a conversation really can create lasting memories and deepen relationships.”
